Sneak Away Sundays (#1)

Standard

Thank you all who sent in stories! I had such an awesome time reading through them. I am so excited to start this new segment on the blog. I will feature 2-3 stories every Sunday (posting this one a little early as I have a busy day tomorrow), so feel free to continue to send your stories in (see details below).

Enjoy!

Hey SingingWithTheVolumeUp,

I love, love, love to sneak away! I have 3 crazy girls at home. Even if it’s just to the grocery store, or Walmart. I always walk around the entire store & sometimes stop at others just fore that little bit of extra time. It’s a great way to clear your head.

My most common sneak away is in the form of running errands. If I need to go to the grocery store or Target, etc., I will do it at a time when it is convenient for J to stay home with E. Oh, I run the errands alright. But I swing by Starbucks on my way out, grab a bite to eat somewhere so that I don’t have to share with anyone, run the errands and also stop in that store I’ve been eying for a while….you get the point!

My most guilty “sneak away” doesn’t actually involve me sneaking away; it’s me SENDING them away! “Hey, you should take E to play with M. It will be fun! Invite your friend too.” Both J and E are occupied and mommy is free to do whatever she wants….or nothing at all!

Sneak Away!

Standard

You know those days you just need a break from your kids??!!! I recently spoke with a mom that took a much needed break from her tiny tot and to hear the rejuvenation in her voice was healing for me!

Today I went to ran errands as my husband watched the baby. Usually I rush to get back but on the way home I stopped, got a ice cream cone, and just sat. It was the best dang ice cream cone!!!!

Then I got to thinking I’m sure a TON of moms..and dads…do this…sneak aways for just a little break. Send me your funny stories and I will feature them on my blog. To submit a story follow guidelines below:

1. Email swtvolumeup@gmail.com

2. Title email: Sneak Away

3. Type up your story and make sure you let me know if you want it anonymous.

That’s it! Can’t wait to hear these stories.

Genesis 10 month update: Summertime Fun

Hey Munchkin,

Genesis!!!!! I am convinced you love your name because the look you give me while running down the hall, as I am yelling it, is pure joy. I guess we can call it running but really it’s a fast paced waddle; that tends to end in giggling falls down the hallway, as Daddy chases you laughing “I’m going to get you”. Pure joy. We laugh so much now. You make us realize that life is so sweet and to enjoy it more; you know don’t sweat the small stuff. Something else you have loved this month is all the summertime fun: you had your first time in the pool, went to pool parties, baby showers, and even the county fair. We have had a blast. We can’t wait to spend the rest of the summer outdoors; smiling and laughing the time away.

Other things we noticed:
-You have started sharing: you love putting food in our mouths, handing us toys
-You are trying your best to say words: Dad, dog, bye, hi, and mom are some of your favorites
-You wave hi and bye when Daddy leaves for work

You love:
-the water; either it be the pool, pool parties, or even the bathtub
-trying new foods, we have tried pasta and meat this month
-running down the hallway, especially when Daddy chases you

You could pass on:
-your own food; you absolutely love eating off Mommy’s plate
-shoes; we had the hardest time getting you to walk in shoes, we have tried over four pair now
-getting out of any body of water, there are always a lot of tears involved

Minute with Modo (#16): Parenting multiple kids

Standard

What I’ve learned this week from having two kids under the age of 3:

1. You will say these words A LOT: wait, sit down, No, I love you, and fine you can have it.

2 You lie often…usually about what an item is that you are putting in your mouth or about the amount of toys carried in a store.

3. You LOVE going to the restroom; except when you have company.

4. It makes a BIG difference when the house is messy when you wake up.

5. You will use the TV as a tool.

6. You will smile a lot more.

7. You will meet people easier.

8. You will become a lot more organized or disorganized; your choice.

9. You will lie a lot! Just wanted to re-emphasize that.

10. You will know if you are ready for another kid; I’m not…at least not right now and I am really ok with that.

11. Your kids thrive with another child in the house; this makes me a little sad I am not ready for another child.

Overall there are SO MANY JOYS and some headaches with parenting multiple children. All in all be prepared and have FUN because things often will not go your way but then you realize that you were CHOSEN to lead this little person in life and gratefulness sets in.

Today at dinner, while our daughter slept (parents of small children know that deserves a whoop whoop); my husband and I talked about how fast life is moving now that we have a child. After some discussion we realized time wasn’t moving faster…not at all…our time just has more meaning now. I won’t go into how much meaning our lives had before her (it did), but will just sit in the fact that our lives have even more now.

For that I am grateful.

Hey Tootsie Roll,

These past two months have been all about celebrations; not only holidays but also celebrating you hitting some pretty big milestones. This was your time to shine and you did! In two months you crawled, stood, and took your first steps; and let me say you LOVE your new independence. Your first steps were with your favorite person in the world; Daddy! At first Mommy was super jealous that I missed it, but after some thinking I am really grateful you chose Daddy to have that moment with. He works so hard all day and misses out on so much of the small things day to day with you, so the fact that you gave him such a big moment was so thoughtful….and it was on his first Fathers Day weekend! How perfect was that! Another big moment was you finally started eating solids! You decided that you wanted to try strawberries while we were at a restaurant…we didn’t mind that part at all…it was the fact you were in ALL WHITE and wanted to feed yourself. It was a mess! Before you left the restaurant you were stark naked and we had a table full of used wipes and napkins LOL! It was such a perfect moment. Some of your favorite foods are: mango, peaches, strawberries, and carrots. You are a sweets girl for sure. Lastly, we celebrated Mommy and Daddy’s five year wedding anniversary and you stayed with Granny for your first time away from both Mom and Dad. You had a blast and so did we! It was the best feeling racing up the stairs to see you after our night out. Thank you Mom for the time off! All in all it was an eventful two months that I wouldn’t trade for the world.

Other things we noticed:
-You are trying so hard to talk
-Sticking your tounge out…It’s quite hilarious
-Still no teeth
-Feeding yourself
-You try and answer my phone when it rings
-You have become pretty good at mimicking

You love:
-Your crib! It took some time, but you actually sleep all night in it.
-Climbing! You still love this and climb on everything: the couch, my legs, the bed, the tub..
-Outdoors. You squeal when I turn the doorknob to go outside.
-Spitting! Mama does not like this one
-The mobile above your crib…this is how mama escapes to the restroom throughout the day.

You could pass on:
– Mommy’s puree combinations. You immediately tell me when I am off the mark LOL. We finally found one you like: oatmeal, carrots, and pears.
-Waiting! You have become quite impatient lately.
-The swing. This was your favorite thing in your room for the past three months and then one day you refused to get in it and never turned back.
-Your walker…it’s a hit or miss but you much rather be held or crawl

Love you for always,

Mommy
