Do You

You want to know when my husband and I fight? When one of us is trying to control the other in some way.

Usually.

Sure we have those typical couple fights: money, waking the baby, what do you want for dinner (why is that always such a hard question).

But when I get down to it most of our fights are about some element of control. But the big question is why?! Why are we trying to control one another and for what purpose?!

Some of the reasons I thought of were: for safety (“babe get off that ladder it’s broken”); for companionship (“I don’t want you to go out tonight”); but the one that made the most sense was for self improvement.

Wait, Modo how do you control someone to improve yourself?!

You can’t! But this is how you fool yourself into thinking you can. Peep the scenario below:

My hubby and I started this meal plan. I bought all the food. Prepped. And printed out the list. The first day while he was at work I cheated. Yep before lunch I at chocolate. The next day he was going to cheat and I went IN on him. Then I realized I wasn’t going off on him I was really going off on myself. I didn’t want to do that damn meal plan in the beginning. Who was I kidding?

I needed to improve my eating habits, so I decided to control my husbands. Sound insane?! It IS!!!!! Lol

I told y’all to pray for me.

Ultimately we have to do US! Focus on you. Make YOU a better YOU! When we both focus more on bettering ourselves and just loving the other person we have the best days. Those are the days we kiss the most, laugh the hardest, and fall in love again.

Anyone else have crazy stories like this? Anyone feel my pain?!

Dying without Passion

It was a great family day with my husband and daughter. During dinner a few guys near our table got into a discussion about motorcycles and I could see my husbands smile breaking under his failed attempt to continue to discuss our daughters “cute new thing”. My husband LOVES cars and motorcycles. Seriously this guy is obsessed. When the average person gets a few extra bucks they buy maybe a new pair of shoes, a nice dinner out, maybe even a splurge trip to Target (oh Target!)…but not my husband when he gets a few extra bucks he buys a car!!!! No lie I have heard about and found cheap cars he has stored at locations other than our house (that’s a whole story I’m sure he hopes I keep to myself :-)). But it’s his passion. I looked at him and said ” Gosh I hope I don’t die without a passion”. We further went on to discuss a few things I had some passion about but nothing like his deep gut wrenching love for exhausts. It first made me sad…then it got me determined. Ultimately we concluded to develop a passion you have to commit time for YOURSELF…to explore….something I am quite terrible at: crafting time for myself. So here goes! Time for self exploration.

As we were leaving a slew of motorcycles passed by, my daughter looked up and squealed…looks like someone is following in her daddy’s footsteps.

Cranky Pants

I was cranky today!

If I am completely honest I have been cranky for a few days. The biggest indicator was my utter frustration with my daughter. I have been blessed with one of the chilliest babies ever…and I don’t say that just because she is my little bundle of joy.

But these past few days every time she made a noise I found my skin crawling (she has been teething, so I am not a complete monster). If you have read my blogs you know just how much we yearned for our little girl so being annoyed with her really started to make me sad.

When I recognized this, I stopped….gave her a bath, read her a story, and held her until she fell asleep.

Parenting isn’t always about getting it right everyday….it’s about being conscious…..present….aware of the good and the bad.

So tomorrow I will start again…being the best mother I know how on that day.

Collect memories not things

20140417-112944.jpg

This morning, while getting ready to leave the house my husband and I tripped over tons of stuff: parts to a bassinet that’s not being used, old magazines, and little poles to something that I have yet to figure out belong to what baby toy. In frustration the hubbs said “there is crap everywhere”! He was right! The house was messy but that’s not exactly what was meant by the statement. We had tons and TONS of stuff: keepsakes from vacations, photo albums from our childhood, and let’s not even talk about all the baby stuff (my living room looks like the furniture section of babies r us). This got me thinking….what would life be life decluttered? And not just physically, but emotionally as well. As part of my observation of lent I cut out all social media (excluding updating my blog) and it’s given me such an awareness of how I waste so much time being distracted. I truly believe that clutter (both physical and emotional) is distraction. Distraction from being our true selves….we have such a SHORT time on this planet and something in me is convinced that we are not supposed to be spending this precious time collecting stuff.

Live out loud

Sooooooo this happened today:

20140415-224534.jpg

Yep! That’s me…on a kid’s ride…screaming my head off. First and foremost I clearly realized today that I need to get in shape…I’ve been working on it but I need to put the light to the fire because kid’s rides are NOT made for adults, BUT adults always have to ride with their kids….and squeezing all this fabulousness into that little seat was for the birds. LOL! But the point of this post is not about my juicy thighs…or even my really cute shoes (go ahead and look), it’s about screaming like a kid. When’s the last time you’ve done it? Gosh it’s freeing!!!! Take some time and just “enjoy life” this week (you know do all those cliche things): laugh like a kid, dance like nobody’s watching, etc….

Life is short…or we should be filling it with so many memories to make it feel like it is.

Always with love,
